Dr. Genieve Burley is an internationally renowned chiropractor and fitness professional. She has her BScH from Queen’s University, Doctor of Chiropractic from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and a MRSc candidate at the University of British Columbia. Genieve has studied in many disciplines of fitness, she is certified by the NSCA as a strength and conditioning specialist, indoor cycling instructor with Schwinn, Lagree certified, and has studied in ashtanga, Iyengar, anusara and yin disciplines of yoga. Genieve has taught over 35 yoga teacher trainings internationally and specializes in movement anatomy. Genieve was certified as a teacher of the Class by Taryn Toomey in 2018 after being a student of the method for 3 years. She is grateful that all of her education and experience in health and wellness has enabled her to align her mind, body and spirit into the Class.
Genieve is passionate about environmentalism, art and philanthropy. In 2015 Genieve co-created Cultivate Wellness, a yearly fundraising event that has raised money for grassroots organizations in need in the lower mainland of British Columbia. She is an educator in her community on waste reduction and plant based lifestyle, and is involved in many local charities supporting the environment, sustainable fashion and animal advocacy.
Genieve brings equal balance of intensity, alignment and depth to all of her classes. She has a deep connection with her community and brings her compassion and kindness into the room to create a safe space for deep work.

A: Funny, loving, effervescent

A: Varied, connected, integrated
Q: What do you find most rewarding about the work you do?
A: I believe I am here to connect with people, to give them confidence about their own power to heal and to live a full life from a place of authenticity. I love to remind people that their body knows how to do everything, we just have to believe it.
Q: Sapphire is known as the wisdom stone. It manifests both spiritual and intellectual insight. What guidance would you give someone who is having trouble accessing consciousness or awareness in themselves?
A: I would tell them that everything in our current world pulls us out of our own knowing, our cell phones, stimulation, light and noise pollution. We are told we need this and that, including objects and education to “know” anything. But wisdom is different than ego-based knowledge, it’s been passed down in our DNA for generations, it’s the wisdom of the gut, of the heart. I would tell them to get really quiet, slow down and listen.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A : When there is tension in your body, others can feel it.
Q: You have two young daughters...holy! How do you promote healthy body image ideals to your daughters?
A: That’s something I’m working on everyday, as my daughters are ballerinas. I think the fact that I eat a varied, healthy and plentiful diet is the best way to educate them. I am fit, I exercise a lot, but I also fuel a lot. I don’t restrict what I eat, but I do listen to when I am hungry and when I am full.
Q: How do you wear jewelry? And why?
A: Jewelry is a big part of my life. I only wear good metals and stones, as everything has an energy. I love jewelry that I can wear everyday, that becomes a part of my body and wraps me in love, especially jewelry that comes as a gift. Right now I am in love with yellow gold and deep coloured stones, like sapphire. I love to collect jewelry that I can pass on to my daughters.
Q: Seasons have shifted and the days are getting shorter and darker. What do you do to keep yourself motivated during these times?
A: When I first came to Vancouver I was very depressed. It was constantly dark and raining as I moved from Toronto in the fall. It took me about a year to realize that the darkness and rain were gifts, time to spend more time at home, eat root vegetables and read more. I still find it hard, but I get myself out for exercise in the dark and the rain, and I do vitamin D sessions in a booth to help with mood.
Q: What is your superpower?
A: My empathy.
Q: What exciting projects or events can we expect from you in the future?
A: Ooh, I have some good things up my sleeve. I am running a retreat in Tulum, and will be visiting Vietnam as a master teacher at the Four Seasons. I also have a big role coming up with the Class by Taryn Toomey. Coming soon…..
